Exceptional performance of JU law students in the Pax Moot Court competition

Exceptional performance of JU law students in the Pax Moot Court competition

In late April, the second stage of the international Pax Moot Court competition took place in Ljubljana. The team of the JU Faculty of Law and Administration, consisting of Daria Rożniakowska, Aleksandra Czuk, Weronika Głownia and Anna Szafarz, advanced to the semi-finals. Additionally, Daria Rożniakowska took second place in the best speaker category.

Pax Moot Court consists of two stages. The first one involved the preparation of two pleadings (memoranda) for a plaintiff and a defendant based on a case prepared by the organisers. This year, the competitors tackled the issues of jurisdiction and applicable law in a dispute regarding compensation for infringement of personal rights and causing property damage resulting from the publication of recordings on an online platform as well as the validity of the contract concluded with the operator of this platform.

The second stage, which took place at the University of Ljubljana, consisted of four dissertation simulations. JU Faculty of Law and Administration students faced teams from the Czech Republic, Germany, France and Spain. In the semi-finals, the Jagiellonian University team lost to students from Sofia University, the winners of this year's edition of the competition.

The students were supervised by employees of the JU Centre for Private International Law – Dr Anna Wysocka-Bar and Dr Bartosz Stelmach.

At various stages of preparation, the team was supported by: Prof. Marek Świerczyński (Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University) and Dr Krzysztof Pacuła (Court of Justice of the European Union), the last year's competition participants Piotr Dziewałtowski-Gintowt and Antoni Chętko, lawyers Łukasz Lasek and Jakub Barański, friendly teams from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, European University of Rome and University of Milan as well as Prof. Michele Angelo Lupoi (University of Bologna), Marco Farina (lawyer from Rome) and Chiovanni Chiapponi (Max Plack Institute in Luxembourg), who were judges during the mock trials.
