International conference: Challenges and Opportunities in Education of the 21st Century

JU Faculty of Management and Social Communication, JU Institute of Economics, Finance and Management, Honors Program of the InterAmerican University of Puerto Rico Metro Campus would like to invite you to the 8th International Scientific Conference on Idealised Design: Challenges and Opportunities in Education of the 21st Century, which will be held in Kraków on 29-30 November 2018.

The participants of the conference are going to discuss directions of cultural and technological development of Western societies. In this context, they intend to identify the main challenges of and opportunities for education. The organiseres invite scientists and educators who can share their research and experience of changes in education. Speakers can justify forecasts in empirical knowledge or design solutions according to some normative assumptions. Lectures or poster presentations can report the state of theoretical or empirical research, formulate hypotheses or research questions.

The organisers want to devote special attention to the teaching mission of universities. It was already outlined by Socrates and Plato. According to these thinkers, that mission is to evoke critical thinking of students. As these philosophers show, it is a precondition for the security of democratic state: people need to think on their own, be critical and analytical to avoid the deception of demagogues and political charlatans. As it seems, educational programmes tend to marginalise this mission. Therefore, the organisers intend to discuss this mission in the context of the coming changes as well as the impact of technological development on education.
