Translator’s (in)visibility

Date: 29.03.2019 - 30.03.2019

Translator’s (in)visibility

The international conference "Translator’s (in)visibility How research into translators’ role contributes to the humanisation of translatology" is aimed at discussing translators’ (in)visibility in society and the necessity of studies into their life and work. The project is part of the relatively new field of study focusing on translations and translators’ biographies as part of the history of literature.

The conference will be held in Polish and German with a simultaneous translation between these languages.

The sessions will be accompanied by a panel discussion in the Goethe Institute (on 29 March at 6.30 p.m.) and a preview of the exhibition “Karl Dedecius Prize Laureates”, combined with the meeting with Lisa Palmes, a translator and one of the Prize winners (on 30 March at 6.00 p.m. in the Jagiellonian Library).

The conference has been organised with the support of the Foundation for the Polish-German cooperation, the Polish-German Foundation for Science, the Goethe Institute and the Jagiellonian Library. It is held under the honorary auspices of the Rector of the Jagiellonian University Prof. Wojciech Nowak.
