Online exhibition: Faces of Loneliness in Culture

Date: 10.03.2021 - 31.12.2021
Organiser: Jagiellonian Library
Online exhibition: Faces of Loneliness in Culture

The exhibition Faces of Loneliness in Culture, displayed online due to the epidemiological situation, is available for public viewing at the Jagiellonian Library website.

As the world discourse on loneliness was irrevocably changed because of the pandemic, it becomes even more important to discuss the issue on a larger scale. The exhibition shows a harsh reality: loneliness strips people of their dignity, pushes them into or out of relationships and tempts them with promises of transcendence. Institutions and new technologies are employed to make people less lonely, extreme sports fans test their bodies during solitary expeditions and artists seek creativity and inspiration in solitude. However, the subject is very complex and the exhibition is only the tip of the iceberg. It features a recorded discussion panel featuring researchers specialising in the issue of loneliness, a documentary about loneliness as well as a catalogue that specifies the details of the exhibition’s aim and scope.

The exhibition, curated by Dr Bartłomiej Gapiński, can be viewed at the Jagiellonian Library website (in Polish).
