659th Academic Year at the Jagiellonian University

The Rector of the Jagiellonian University Prof. Jacek Popiel is pleased to announce the opening ceremony of the Academic Year 2022/2023.

The ceremony will be preceded by a Holy Mass in St. Anne’s Collegiate Church celebrated by Archbishop Marek Jędraszewski at 9.00 a.m. After the service, the customary procession of professors in gowns will leave Collegium Maius and march through the streets of Kraków to Auditorium Maximum. It is the only occasion during the entire year when JU authorities and professors can be seen in their traditional academic attire. All sixteen JU faculties take part in the march, and each professor wears a gown whose colour symbolises his or her faculty.

The main part of the celebrations starts at 11.00 a.m. in JU Auditorium Maximum. It will include the matriculation of students from all JU faculties and the presentation of congratulatory notes to JU Rector’s Awards 'Jagiellonian Laurel' as well as other university decorations.

The academic year opening lecture will be delivered by Prof. Bartosz Brożek.
