Unesco Chair in Translation and International Communication hosted international training for translation trainers. The event was organised as part of the OPTIMALE: Optimising Professional Translator Training in a Multilingual Europe project funded with support from the European Commission. A two-day training workshop was opened by Dr hab Władysław Witalisz, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Prof. dr hab. Elżbieta Tabakowska and Dr hab. Maria Piotrowska.

Training sessions were run by:

• Prof. Elisabeth Lavault-Olléon, University of Grenoble
• Dr Marcel Thelen, Zuyd University in Maastricht,
• Dr Daniel Linder, University of Salamanca

Plenary discussions were led by mgr Dariusz Hanusiak and mgr Krzysztof Łoboda from UNESCO Chair in Translation and International Communication.

The training brought together 25 guests from the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Greece, Spain, the Netherlands, Slovakia, and Ukraine. Among Polish scholars were those from the Jagiellonian University, Śląsk University, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and Gdańsk University.


The OPTIMALE project aims to enhance the visibility and relevance of professional translator education and training in Europe. This defined as providing Master's degree level programmes that equip graduates with a thorough knowledge of the translation industry, professions, and processes, and with a range of competences that are relevant to professional requirements in this area.
