Tea party with Alice in Wonderland

On February 27, 2013 Bona Publishing House and Bookshop hosted a meeting promoting a new Polish edition of "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland".

The book was translated by Professor of the Jagiellonian University Elżbieta Tabakowska, an accomplished linguist and translator. The new edition includes the translator's afterword and Tove Jansson's illustrations. Although the graphic design was produced in the 1960s, it is presented to the Polish audience for the first time.

The meeting, a "mad tea party" with tea and cookies, was led by Szymon Kloska from the Polish Book Institute. The discussion focused on the phenomenon of Lewis Caroll's classic children's books and their translations. The participants of the meeting discussed the reasons why new translators constantly take up the challenge of translating this linguistically demanding and ambiguous text, often considered untranslatable, and reflected upon the problems of translation of children's fantasy literature in general.

During the meeting, Tove Jansson's illustrations were displayed on the screen. The participants had an opportunity to buy the book at a reduced price and receive the Translator's signature.
