The Ordre des Palmes Académiques is awarded to educators and scholars for their contribution to researching, teaching as well as disseminating knowledge of French culture on the international stage. The Order of Academic Palms comprises three grades, Commandeur (Commander), Officier (Officer), and Chevalier (Knight).

Prof. Marcela Świątkowska, former Dean of the JU Faculty of Philology and presently the Head of the Department of Linguistics at the Institute of Romance Studies and Head of the UNESCO Chair in Translation Studies and International Communication, was awarded the Ordre des Palmes Académiques pursuant to the resolution of 1 February 2013 issued by the Prime Minister of France.
