New Scientific Method Helps to Determine Hair Colour of Unknown Offenders
Determining the hair colour of an unknown perpetrator who has committed a crime will be possible thanks to the innovative research conducted by Polish-Dutch team of scientists (The Institute of Forensic Expertise from Kraków and Erasmus Medical Center from Rotterdam).
The analysis of DNA markers from 11 genes helps to determine with an accuracy of more than 90 percent whether a person has red hair, with a similarly high accuracy whether a person has black hair, and with an accuracy of more than 80 percent whether a person's hair colour is blond or brown.
The DNA can be taken from any biological material e.g. track left by the offender, fragment of tissue or skeleton.
The method is to speed up investigations and facilitate the work of courts.
