Sławomir Mrożek's funeral

Sławomir Mrożek, a famous Polish playwright, writer and graphic artist, was buried on Tuesday, 17 September, in the National Pantheon under the Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Kraków. The ceremony commenced with the display of the urn and the funeral memorial book in the Barbican.

Then the urn travelled by a horse drawn black carriage through the Royal Route to the Church of Saints Peter and Paul. The service was led by Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz, the Archbishop of Kraków.

Sławomir Mrożek has been the first person to be buried in the National Pantheon under the Church of Saints Peter and Paul. From now on it will be a burial place for Polish distinguished artists and scientists. The sarcophagus with Mrożek's ashes was placed in a crypt dating back to 1735.
