Student Nobel Prize 2011 goes to the JU Medical College student

Paweł Matusik, the sixth year student of the Faculty of Medicine of the Jagiellonian University Medical College won the title of the best student in Poland. He received the Student Nobel Prize 2011 in the 3rdedition of the competition organized by the Independent Students' Association.

Paweł Matusik was presented with the award on June 27, 2011 in the Sejm of the Republic of Poland. This has not been his first success, since in November 2010, he was awarded the Wacław Mayzl Medical Laurel by the Division of Medical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Since May 2010 he receives scholarship from the Foundation for Polish Science.

The competition aims to select and promote the most talented students, both from state and non-state institutions of higher education, including "the best of the best": the winner of the Student Nobel Prize. Besides, the awards go to the best students within 10 different fields, such as: life sciences, technical/technological sciences, medical/health sciences, law and related sciences, economic sciences, humanities, exact sciences, art, sport and foreign languages.

The Student Nobel laureate said that his scholarly interests were especially strongly influenced by Prof. Tomasz Guzik and Prof. Tomasz Grodzicki. He commented: "They made me interested in academic activity, have shown me the importance of doing what is really worthwhile. In this job, one should first of all focus on quality, not only in science and research, but in one's entire activity, including such areas as sports or community activity."
