JU researcher awarded by the European Women Inventors & Innovators Network (EUWIIN)

Dr Anna Walaszkiewicz from the Department of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Jagiellonian University Medical College Faculty of Pharmacy received the Special Recognition Award, granted by the European Women Inventors and Innovators Network (EUWIIN). Dr Walaszkiewicz was among the seven Polish women awarded in the competition, one of whom, Dr Barbara Wrześniewska from the Institute of Biopolymers and Chemical Fibres in Lodz, won the silver medal.

EUWIIN prizes are honorary awards granted to women in recognition of their actions and achievements in the field of Invention and Innovation. The winners are women whose work has international reach, who are widely respected, and whose research has gained local and international recognition. The main goal is to promote and support women inventors and innovators. EUWIIN is trying to introduce gender equality to the world of invention and innovation by including women in the dialogue which shapes European socio-economic development policy and strategy. The awards were presented during an international conference devoted to the acceleration of products' and services' innovativeness and the socio-economic impact of these changes, organised by the Global Women Inventors & Innovators Network.

It is not the first award received by Dr Anna Walaszkiewicz. In July 2013 she took first place in the 2nd edition of the Women for Science Foundation competition, for inventing the medication against neuropathic pain and epilepsy. This innovation was promoted in Nuremberg during the 65th International Fair: iENA 2013 Ideas, Inventions, New Products, which took place in September 2013.
