Dr Joanna Bocheńska takes part in a Kurdish TV programme

The research project How to make a voice audible? Continuity and change of Kurdish culture and of social reality in postcolonial perspectives and the Section for Kurdish Studies at the Department of Iranian Studies of the JU Institute of Oriental Studies  were the subject of Rawêj programme of the Kurdish television channel Stêrk TV, based in Brussels.

Rawêj programme is run by a well-known Kurdish journalist and columnist Hassan Ghazi. As the language of the programme is Kurdish, it usually features Kurdish scholars. Dr Joanna Bocheńska has been the third foreign guest who speaks Kurdish (Kurmanji dialect) in the history of the programme. During the nearly one-hour-long talk, broadcast live on Sunday evening (December 8), the guest talked about the history of Polish contacts with the Middle East, about Polish Tatars (as a member of this ethnic minority), and, especially, about the history of oriental studies at the Jagiellonian University, the Polish pioneers of Kurdish studies (such as Polish diplomats in the service of Russian Tsars, August Kościesza-Żaba and Alexander Chodźko as well as the Jagiellonian University scholars Prof. Leszek Dzięgiel and Prof. Andrzej Pisowicz), the foundation and objectives of the Section for Kurdish Studies at the Jagiellonian University, and about the research project: How to make a voice audible? Continuity and change of Kurdish culture and of social reality in postcolonial perspectives, carried out with support of the National Science Centre.
