Focus magazine gives credit to a JU scholar

Innovation in the most rapidly developing areas in the modern life has been the leitmotif of this year's "Focus' Lenses" contest. The  magazine's editorial staff have selected young scientists and inventors on the basis of their achievements from 2013. Ihe list of applicants and projects was divided into 3 categories: medical, technical and IT.

Among the nominees from the medical category was Dr Anna Waszkielewicz, who – under the supervision of Prof. dr hab. Henryk Marona – is coordinating research on a new family of chemical compounds that may help both those who suffer from epilepsy and those suffering from neuropathic pain. The JU Faculty of Pharmacy research team have already completed most of the pre-clinical tests, conducted in prestigious medical centres, e.g. the American Institute of Health. Further steps in the project include safety tests of the new medicine and methods of its administration. First human tests will be conducted in 2015. The invention was patented.

You can vote for Dr Anna Waszkielewicz on the website of "Focus' Lenses" until 17 February 2014.
