JU in the international Webometrics ranking
According to the Webometrics ranking, the University of Warsaw achieved the best result (274 place), followed by the Jagiellonian University (328 place). Three other Polish universities qualified to be among the first 500 – Adam Mickiewicz University (344), AGH University of Science and Technology (384) and Warsaw University of Technology (483).
The ranking took into consideration 11 992 universities from all over the world, including 440 institutions in Poland. First places in the ranking were taken by American universities, like in the previous years. Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University were on top of the list. The full list is available at: webometrics.info.
The Webometrics Ranking is published twice a year by the Spanish National Research Council (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas) in Madrid. This ranking measures how strongly a university is represented on the Internet. Scientific achievements are not taken into account in the ranking.
The factors taken into consideration include: the number of subpages and attached files on the University domain, the frequency of links to the University's website on the Internet, and the citation index. The central hypothesis of this approach is that strong web presence translates into university high prestige and performance.
