The Jagiellonian University ranked the best university in Poland

The 13th edition of the ranking prepared by Perspektywy magazine and Rzeczpospolita daily, named the Jagiellonian University the best university in Poland.

The survey included 250 Polish (private and state) universities, which were assessed against five categories: prestige (measured by employers' preferences and school-contest prize-winners' choices), scientific potential, scientific effectiveness, innovativeness (number of patent applications and granted patents), and conditions of studying (number of professors).

Our university is constantly improving the quality of education. A particular emphasis has been put on the number of publications produced by research fellows. The survey considered the publications from 2007-2011 from SCOPUS citation database, which claims to be the largest abstract and citation database of research literature and quality web sources. As of 10 January 2012 the Jagiellonian University could boast 7972 publications cited in 32 665 sources.

The measurement of academic productivity at the Jagiellonian University showed  an improvement as compared to the previous years (this year H-index reached 51, whereas in previous years it was 44 and 48). According to Prof Szczepan Biliński, JU Vice-rector for Research and International Relations, the improvement is a result of the monitoring of the effectiveness of JU academic teachers and research fellows. Regular surveys conducted among academics motivate them to further development and greater contribution to the advancement of science.
