Prof Jan Potempa receives an honorary degree from Lund University

On Thursday, 25 May 2012, Lund University decided to award Prof Jan Potempa an honorary degree. On that occasion the scholar delivered a lecture entitled: Cysteine proteases (gingipains) of Porphyromonas gingivalis: what don't they do? The official ceremony was held on Friday in the city cathedral.

Prof Potempa is a biochemist and microbiologist. His scientific interest revolves around pathogenicity of infectious diseases. Since 2005 he has held the post of Head of the Department of Microbiology at Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology. Since 2009 he has also been working in the Department of Oral Health and Rehabilitation University of Louisville School of Dentistry. He graduated from the Jagiellonian University in 1979. In 1982 he earned his PhD, in 1993 – D.Sc. and in 1998 he was promoted to professor.


Professor's research achievements are highly recognised internationally and his publications are widely cited. He is an author of over 278 publications.
