I was enchanted by the climate of the place and the university

Mr Jacek Wawer, PhD student of philosophy (JU Institute of Philosophy), visited Berkeley as a Fulbright Junior Researcher. Fulbright Advanced Research Awards (JUNIORS – predoctoral category) are offered to Polish citizens who plan advanced research in the U.S. At the time of application, applicants must hold the M.A./M.Sc./M.D. degree and must be doctoral candidates employed at an institution of higher education or a research institution in Poland.

Mr Wawer was invited to Berkeley by Professor John MacFarlane, one of the best experts in semantic relativism.

"This cooperation was extremely valuable to me", Mr Jacek Wawer summarises his stay in Berkeley and his collaboration with Professor MacFarlane, "it gave me significant insight into the problem, which is the subject of my future PhD thesis. During my visit I could also immerse in the vast collection of the university library (one of the biggest library collections in the U.S.) as well as participate in the lectures and seminars of eminent and widely recognised philosophers, language specialists and mathematicians. I could also attend numerous conferences and workshops organised by Berkeley and Stanford University".

Mr Jacek Wawer conducts his research in the philosophy of language. He is interested in the closely related issues of open future, future contingents, indeterminism, and free will; and more generally, in metaphysics and logic.
