UNESCO Chair signs a cooperation agreement with Motorola Solutions

On Thursday, 25 September 2014, an agreement was signed between the UNESCO Chair in Translation Studies and International Communication and Motorola Solutions Systems Polska. The signatories were Prof. Wojciech Nowak, JU Rector, and Jacek Drabik, a member of the Motorola Solutions board of directors. Dr hab. Elżbieta Górska, prof. UJ, Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Prof. Marcela Świątkowska, Head of the UNESCO Chair, Dr Anna Jankowska, an employee of the UNESCO Chair and Piotr Peszko, an expert from Motorola Solutions also took part in the meeting.

"I hope this agreement will be effective and beneficial for the university. By that I mean both our academic staff and students," said Prof. Wojciech Nowak. According to the agreement, UNESCO Chair students who have participated in technical writing classes will be tutored by Motorola specialists in their facilities.

"Our alumni are well-know for their adaptability on the job market. Their employers are very pleased with them. The experts from Motorola solutions tell me our graduates are very skilled in the use of specialist terminology. I'm happy that cooperation between the Faculty of Philology and business is working out well," said Dr hab. Elżbieta Górska, prof. UJ.

This cooperation is crucial on several levels. Firstly, it allows for the establishment of a link between the university and business. Secondly, it enables students to acquire skills valued by potential employers. Thirdly, it is a continuation of the informal cooperation which has been taking place until now – cooperation that has allowed JU students to work for an international corporation.
