Chemical Communications promotes research by the JU scientists

In its latest issue, the prestigious journal Chemical Communications (Chem. Commun. 2012, 48, 8323), published by the Royal Society of Chemistrypromotes research by the Jagiellonian University scientists from the Inorganic Molecular Materials Group (Faculty of Chemistry), headed by Professor Barbara Sieklucka.

The feature article: "Evidence for magnetic anisotropy of [NbIV(CN)8]4- in a pillared-layered Mn2Nb framework showing spin-flop transition" is about a new coordination polymer obtained by the JU scientists.

The group conducts research in the field of multifunctional molecular materials. They especially focus on the crystal engineering of new polynuclear coordination compounds with spin-carriers, due to their potential application in spintronics. Molecular magnetic materials display high sensitivity and selectivity unattainable by conventional magnetic materials, and the multifunctionality, which combines various physico-chemical properties, opens the possibility of such potential applications as high storage density magnetic memory, computing units of quantum computers, molecular switches, nanowires, molecular nanomagnets, chemical sensors, or pollution absorbents. Thus the research has a wide range of possible applications.
