Jagiellonian University ranked in world's top 300

On October 28, U.S. News and World Report, a top publisher of educational rankings and analyses, revealed the 2015 Best Global Universities ranking.

The general list includes top 500 universities from 49 countries. There are also separate regional rankings of higher education institutions in Asia, Australia/New Zealand, Europe and Latin America, as well as other more detailed analyses.

Three highest places in the world ranking were taken by higher education institutions from the United States: Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the University of California, Berkeley. The top positions in Europe were occupied by the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, and the Imperial College London.

The Jagiellonian University is among two Polish institutions present on this prestigious list. Being 288th in the world and 123rd in Europe, it was only slightly surpassed by the University of Warsaw which took, respectively, 280th and 121st place. The details are available here.

The methodology employed by the Best Global Universities ranking is based on data provided by Thomson Reuters InCites and takes into account such factors as university's global and regional reputation, research achievements (based on bibliometric data), as well as data related to the university graduates.

The 2015 list is the first global evaluation of universities conducted by U.S. News and World Report. Earlier, the institution primarily focused on American higher education institutions, having published Best Colleges rankings for 30 years. The inaugural list was created under the supervision of Robert Morse – one of the world's most distinguished experts in the field of academic rankings.
