JU inventions nominated in the EUREKA! DGP contest

EUREKA! DGP is a project which consists of an article series by the Dziennik Gazeta Prawna newspaper and a contest for the best Polish invention. The idea behind the project is to promote Polish science and the potential of young researchers by making the general public aware of their inventions which have been submitted to the Polish Patent Office.

Both state and non-state higher education institutions are allowed to take part in the contest, provided they offer study programmes in the following fields:

  • computer science,
  • mechanical engineering, technology, land engineering, material engineering, nanotechnology, physics and related sciences,
  • biological sciences, biotechnology, chemistry, medical sciences,
  • Earth sciences, environmental sciences, agriculture, veterinary medicine.

The Jagiellonian University will be represented by two inventions:

  • Detection of bacteria and fungi in blood via the nested multiplex real time PCR method (project P-192), invented by Dr Tomasz Gosiewski, Dr Monika Brzychczy-Włoch, Dr Agata Pietrzyk, and Prof. dr hab. Małgorzata Bulanda from the JU Medical College,
  • Diagnostic test for Streptococcus agalactiae infection in pregnant women (project P-195), invented by Dr Monika Brzychczy-Włoch and Prof. dr. hab. Piotr B. Heczko from the JU Medical College, in collaboration with Dr Sabina Górska, Dr Ewa Brzozowska, Prof. dr hab. Andrzej Gamian from the Polish Academy of Science in Wrocław.

The winners will be announced and awarded on 30 June 2015 during an official gala.
