Prof. Sławomir Kołodziej won the Stefan Bergman Prize

The Stefan Bergman Prize for the year 2014 was presented to Prof. Sławomir Kołodziej, a Jagiellonian University mathematician, and Prof. Takeo Ohsawa from the Nagoya University. The award was established in 1989 by the American Mathematical Society and is one of the most important honours in the field of mathematics (and the most important one in complex analysis).

Prof. Sławomir Kołodziej from the Chair of Mathematical Analysis was honoured for his contribution to the theory of Monge–Ampère equation and the theory of pluripotency. The results pertaining to discovering necessary and sufficient conditions of finite solutions of this equation as well as their stability and exact estimates were deemed particularly important.

Stefan Bergman was born in Częstochowa in 1895. He earned his PhD and habilitation in Berlin, and has been closely tied to the Stanford University since 1952. He is best known for his work on what is now known as Bergman's kernel.
