Dr Rony Berger visits JU

On 2 March 2015 the Jagiellonian University Institute of Applied Psychology hosted a visit by Dr Rony Berger, one the world's leading experts in the area of clinical psychology, who specialises in the issues related to trauma resulting from natural disasters, military conflicts, terrorist attacks, and all kinds of physical, psychological and sexual violence against individuals and groups.

At a meeting with the Institute staff Dr Berger shared his reflections on promoting the idea of compassion in the modern world, as well as his experience related to the implementation of various programmes preventing and alleviating trauma, including education of children, teachers and parents. Then, during a two-hour-long lecture entitled "The Traumatic Memory Reconstructing Model", he presented, in a very interesting way, the phenomenology of a traumatic experience, the types of reaction to trauma and their consequences, illustrated with examples from his own practice. The lecture, which included some elements of a workshop, was enthusiastically received by the audience and sparked an animated discussion.

The organisers hope that this first visit of Dr Rony Berger at the Jagiellonian University marks the beginning of a long-term research collaboration.
