On 16 September 2015 the Jagiellonian University hosted a visit by a delegation from the International Academy of Gastronomy.
The guests included presidents of the National Academies of Gastronomy from USA, Brasilia, Lebanon, Syria, Spain (including Basque Country), Germany, Switzerland, Greece, France, Belgium, and Sweden.
The delegation was received in Collegium Maius by the Rector of the Jagiellonian University Prof. Wojciech Nowak, accompanied by the Director of JU Museum Prof. Krzysztof Stopka. The main part of the visit took place in Stuba Communis room, where the guests could taste the wine from the Jagiellonian University Vineyard "On Manor Brook".
The Rector made the guests familiar with the main facts from the JU history, pointing to its famous alumni, such as Nicholaus Copernicus and Pope John Paul II. The President of the Polish Academy of Gastronomy Maciej Dobrzyniecki wished the Jagiellonian University more such eminent graduates in the years to come.
The Academy members showed great interest in the Jagiellonian University wine and asked a lot of questions to the JU Vineyard Director Adam Kiszka, who was also present at the meeting.
After the toast, the guests proceeded to Collegium Maius courtyard, where they were shown the playing clock with a procession of historical figures, the meaning of which was explained to them by Prof. Krzysztof Stopka.
The meeting was part of the Academy's first official visit to Poland. During its first three days the delegation is staying in the royal city of Kraków, discovering Polish history and culture, as well as various local delicacies.
