On 30 March 2016 the Jagiellonian University was visited by a Philippine delegation led by Patricia Ann V. Paez, the Ambassador of the Republic Philippines to Poland.
The diplomats were received in Collegium Novum by the Rector of the Jagiellonian University Prof. Wojciech Nowak, accompanied by the Dean of the JU Faculty of International and Political Studies and the Head of the JU Chair in East and South Asia Prof. Adam Jelonek.
During the meeting, participants discussed prospects of mutual academic cooperation with special focus on the development of student exchange between the JU and Philippine higher education institutions. Other topics of the discussion included diplomatic relations between Poland and Philippines, as well as the history of both countries and their academic institutions.
After the meeting, the Ambassador delivered a lecture at the JU Institute of the Middle and Far East. The talk was entitled "An Overview of the Philippines and its Perspectives and Official Position on the Issue of Competing Claims in the South China Sea" and was part of the series Jagiellonian Diplomatic Encounters, organised by the JU Faculty of International and Political Studies.
Ambassador Patricia Ann V. Paez is the Philippines' envoy to the Republic of Poland, with concurrent jurisdiction over the Republic of Estonia, Republic of Latvia and the Republic of Lithuania.
