JU ranked the most active Polish applicant at the European Patent Office

According to the data released by the European Patent Office on 7 March 2017, the Jagiellonian University is the most active Polish institutions when it comes to patent application.

In 2016, the number of patents granted by the European Patent Office (EPO) to Polish institutions and businesses has increased by 19,2%. Last year, the EPO has granted patents to 180 Polish applicants, setting a new record (the previous one was 151 in 2015). However, it is important to notice that the overall number of Polish applications dropped by 27,9%.

In contrast to other European countries, Polish patent activity was mostly fuelled by higher education institutions and research centres (six out of eight most frequent applicants). The Jagiellonian University was ranked as the most active with 12 patents granted, followed by Polpharma pharmaceutical company (10 patents granted).
