Ambassador of Portugal visits the Jagiellonian University

On 27 March 2017 the Jagiellonian University hosted a visit by the Ambassador of Portugal to Poland João Manuel da Cruz da Silva Leitão.

The diplomat was received in Collegium Novum building by the Rector of the Jagiellonian University Prof. Wojciech Nowak, who was accompanied by Prof. Adam Jelonek, the JU Rector’s Proxy for Internationalisation.

The main topic discussed at the meeting was cooperation between the JU and Portuguese higher education institutions in the field of student exchange, as well as other areas. The ambassador was presented with basic facts and figures related to the existing collaboration and the participants talked about the prospects of its development in the context of the current situation in Europe.

João Manuel da Cruz da Silva Leitão was born in 1952. After graduating from the University of Lisbon Law School, he joined the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1979. As a diplomat he has occupied a number of positions, including the Ambassador of Portugal to Finland (2004-2008) and Lithuania (2008-2012). In 2012 he took the post of the Diplomatic and Consular Inspector-General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since 2016 João Manuel da Cruz da Silva Leitão has been the Ambassador of Portugal to Poland. It is the first time he has visited the Jagiellonian University.
