Prof. Jacques Leroy honoured by the Jagiellonian University

On 13 April 2018 during a ceremony in JU Collegium Novum the honorary doctorate of the Jagiellonian University was conferred upon Prof. Jacques Leroy from the University of Orleans. Prof. Jacques Leroy is an eminent lawyer and academic as well a friend of Poland who has long been affiliated with the Jagiellonian University Faculty of Law and Administration and the community of Kraków lawyers.

The title was awarded under the JU Senate resolution, following a motion put forward by the Faculty of Law and Administration.

The award ceremony was opened by the Rector of the Jagiellonian University Prof. Wojciech Nowak. The laudatory speech was given by Prof. Krzysztof Wojtyczek from the JU Faculty of Law and Administration, who stressed that “Instead of following academic fashions, Professor Jacques Leroy opens up new research perspectives. His profound scholarly insight allows him to see what is invisible to other lawyers and his texts delight readers with the beauty of language.

Thanks to his outstanding academic achievements and diverse scholarly interests Prof. Leroy earned himself a reputation as an eminent expert in criminal law and penal sciences who also possesses profound knowledge in civil law and is eager to undertake new challenges related to issues combining various legal disciplines.

Since 2006 Prof. Leroy has been the head of the School of French Law at the JU Faculty of Law and Administration and has been responsible for running a Master’s programme in French and International Commercial Law. As an outstanding lecturer, he explains the complexities of French law with passion, treating students with utmost respect. Thanks to his dedication, the academic collaboration between the two 14th century European universities – the University of Orleans founded in 1306 and the Jagiellonian Unviersity established 58 years later – has reached new heights.
