Jagiellonian University starts cooperation with National University of Chimborazo

On 29 May 2018, a bilateral cooperation agreement between the Jagiellonian University and the National University of Chimborazo, Ecuador (Universidad Nacional de Chimborazo - UNACH) was signed in JU Collegium Novum.

The Ecuadorian delegation, led by the Rector of the UNACH Prof. Nicolay Samaniego Erazo, was received by the JU Vice-Rector for Research and Structural Funds Prof. Stanisław Kistryn. Prof. Samaniego Erazo and Prof. Kistryn signed the document at a meeting in Collegium Novum Senate Room, which was also attended by deans and heads of selected faculties and institutes from both universities.

The National University of Chimborazo is located in the city of Riobamba, the capital of Chimborazo province. It was established in 1995 and currently has over 5 thousand students.

The bilateral agreement opens up prospects for the development of student and staff exchange between the two universities. As stressed at the meeting, Ecuador has the greatest biodiversity per square metre in the world, which presents both great research opportunities and great challenges for environmental protection, and highlights the importance of the planned cooperation between the UNACH and the JU faculties of Biology as well as Geography and Geology.
