Archie Granot’s work exhibited at the Jagiellonian Library

Archie Granot’s work exhibited at the Jagiellonian Library

On 14 June, an exhibition of work by Archie Granot, one of the world’s leading paper cut artists, was opened at the Jagiellonian Library.

Born in London, England in 1946, Archie Granot has lived in Israel from 1967. Prior to moving to Jerusalem in 1978, he was a member of an agricultural community where he milked cows and grew melons. He has a MA in Russian Studies from the University of Glasgow, Scotland and a BA in Political Science and Russian Studies from the Hebrew University, Jerusalem.

A self-taught artist, Archie Granot made his first paper cut in 1979 and has been creating paper art ever since. His unique works, inspired by Jewish and Biblical texts, show that the revival of this traditional art form need not be a repetition of motifs and style.

His work is in public and private collections worldwide. These include the Israel Museum, Jerusalem; the Jewish Museum, New York; the Jewish Theological Seminary, New York; the Library of Congress, Washington D.C; the Museum of Contemporary Religious Art, Saint Louis; the Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Yeshivah University Museum, New York.
