JU MC researcher among Emerging Europe Awards winners

Dr Mateusz Hołda from the JU Medical College Faculty of Medicine was awarded with the Emerging Europe Award in the category Young Influencer of the Year. The award was presented on 28 June 2019 at a ceremony in the headquarters of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London.

 

The Emerging Europe Awards contest is organised by the Emerging Europe think-tank, which studies the economic and social development of Central-Eastern European states and supports the influx of foreign investment to this region. The awards are granted to individuals, companies and local government institutions in over a dozen different categories.

Dr Mateusz Hołda won the award for his interdisciplinary research achievements as well as his contribution to the community of young researchers in Europe. The jury have stressed that his work inspires young Europeans to undertake bold decisions, establish ambitious goals, and pursue them in a persistent manner.

The laureate graduated from the Jagiellonian University Medical College (JU MC). He has been the first person in Poland to obtain a PhD degree before completing his Master’s programme. His doctoral thesis was entitled Mitral isthmus and cavotricuspid isthmus – anatomical basis for ablation of arrhythmogenic substrate. He is the co-founder and head of the Heart Embryology and Anatomy Research Team at the JU MC Chair of Anatomy. His research is focused on the morphology of cardiovascular system, and heart imaging techniques. He has published over 60 articles in research journals from the field of cardiology and morphology. Dr Hołda is a member of numerous research associations, including the European Society of Cardiology, the American Association of Anatomists and the American Association of Clinical Anatomists.
