JU receives funding for a new study programme in English

JU receives funding for a new study programme in English

The Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange has announced the results of the KATAMARAN programme, focused on supporting joint second-cycle studies. The Jagiellonian University Faculty of International and Political Studies is among the institutions chosen that will be granted funds for this purpose.

The main aim of the programme is to support Polish higher education institutions in the scope of creating and implementing international curricula on joint second-cycle studies leading to obtaining a joint or double diploma. From the point of view of the transfer of knowledge and international cooperation, a joint diploma received from several institutions constitutes one of the most interesting educational formats. Under this project, institutions will be able to secure financing for international cooperation with a partner, leading to an increased number of joint second-cycle studies curricula, improved students and academic staff mobility, and better quality of education owing to the transfer of international experiences to Polish higher education institutions.

The JU Faculty of International and Political Studies will receive 624,000 zlotys (~144,000 euro) to fund the International Relations and Public Diplomacy project, introduced in response to the challenges arising in higher education both in Poland and Europe as well as changes in the job market in the area of international relations and diplomacy. The project will be realised from October 2019 until March 2021.

The main aim of the project is to create a joint 4-semester study programme in English with the University of Siena (with two semesters to be completed in Poland and two Italy), as both universities complement each other in the teaching of public and cultural diplomacy.

The programme is directed to first-cycle graduates from countries from both inside and outside of Europe, which will allow for collaboration in a naturally international and intercultural environment. Unique on the scale of the European Union, this programme will equip students with knowledge and competencies related to international issues and public diplomacy.

The project entails staff exchange, conferences, preparation of joint teaching scripts and other materials (including textbooks) as well as promotional activities. It will be based on a synergetic approach, making use of the experience acquired from similar programmes (International Security and Development for the Jagiellonian University and Public and Cultural Diplomacy for the University of Siena).
