ERC plenary meeting at the Jagiellonian University

ERC plenary meeting at the Jagiellonian University

‘I am very pleased to welcome the members of European Research Council, together with its President Professor Jean-Pierre Bourguignon, here at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. We are honoured that the Council has accepted our invitation to meet here at the oldest Polish higher education institution’, said JU Rector Prof. Wojciech Nowak during the official opening of the 72nd plenary meeting of the European Research Council Scientific Council on 22 October 2019.

‘Some of the most famous Jagiellonian University graduates include Mikołaj Kopernik, Wisława Szymborska, Pope John Paul II, and many more. This University is the cradle of Polish science and culture, and that gives me an even greater pleasure to welcome you here. I wish you a fruitful debate and a memorable stay in Kraków’ said Prof. Nowak.

The meeting of the Scientific Council, the governing body of the European Research Council, is being hosted at the Jagiellonian University on 21–23 October. The Scientific Council consists of eminent scientists and scholars appointed by the European Commission based on recommendations from an independent institution. This year marks the first time it was organised in Poland. During the three days, the participants will discuss issues related to the organisation’s current activities, debate on European research projects, and consider the potential recipients of the forthcoming ERC Research Grants.
