Prof. Stanisław Kistryn participates in Brussels talks

The JU Vice-Rector for Research and Structural Funds Prof. Stanisław Kistryn paid a visit to Brussels, where he met with the European Commissioner for Education and Youth Marija Gabriel and took part in the debate “Towards a new vision for Europe's higher education sector.”

On 5 December, Prof. Kistryn met with Marija Gabriel, who is also responsible for research and higher ediucation, and Apostolia Karamali, Head of the Academic Reasearch and Innovation and Research Organisations Unit at the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission.

The topics discussed during the meeting included the European Universities initiative, the problem of differences between EU-15 and EU-13 states’ participation in Horizon 2020 programmes and the perspectives for reducing these disparities in Horizon Europe, financing research from EU funds and national funds, as well as initiatives supporting cooperation with states from outside the EU. The participants also talked about the implementation of digital access policy as part of the new approach to creating a single European Research Area and European Education Area and about improving the synergy between the Horizon Europe and the Cohesion Fund.

Prior to the meeting, Prof. Stanisław Kistryn took part in the public debate “Towards a new vision for Europe's higher education sector”, organised by the Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities, featuring the Director-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture at the European Commission Themis Christophidou, the Minister of Higher Education and Research of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation Valérie Glatigny, as well as other representatives of EU institutions, university networks, and European academia.
