University cooperation networks still active despite COVID-19 pandemic

On 10-12 June, a series of on-line meetings were held by the Coimbra Group, a cooperation network bringing together 40 European higher education institutions, including the Jagiellonian University. Since June 2019, the position of the Honorary President of the network was given to JU Rector Prof. Wojciech Nowak.

On 10 June, 350 representatives from member higher education institutions participated in an on-line session on European university alliances. The next they, Prof. Wojciech Nowak presided over a meeting  of the Coimbra Group Advisory Board, dedicated to the issues of university activities, cooperation networks and virtual mobility in the face of COVID-19.

On 12 June, during the General Assembly, Prof. Wojciech Nowak delivered an opening speech on the problems and issues challenging university networks and alliances, stressing his conviction that it will be possible to continue the mission of European universities thorough strong ties and intensive cooperation.

Following the end of his term in the office, President of the Paul Valéry University of Montpellier Prof. Patrick Gilli was chosen as Prof. Wojciech Nowak’s successor as the new Honorary President of Coimbra Group. The next annual conference and General Assembly in 2021 will be held at the Charles University in Prague. The Jagiellonian University will continue to be represented in the Coimbra Group by JU Vice-Rector for University Development Prof. Dorota Malec, who is a member of the Executive Board.
