Jagiellonian University will promote Polish culture in the United States

Promoting Polish language and culture among the academic community of the Northern Illinois University is the main aim of the project of Dr Rafał Młyński from the JU Faculty of Polish Studies, who has just received funding from the National Agency for Academic Exchange.

‘The aim of the programme is to promote the Polish language in the world as well as teaching a large audience about the Polish history and culture. The 15 awarded projects will contribute to the increase in quality of teaching Polish as a foreign language and will improve Poland’s image in the world’ said Dr Grażyna Żebrowska, Director of the National Agency for Academic Exchange.

The Jagiellonian University, together with the Northern Illinois University, will carry out a project entitled ‘Poland sounds familiar’, directed to speech and language therapy students and their teachers at the School of Allied Health and Communicative Disorders, who will be introduced to Polish phonetics and phonology, contemporary socio-cultural phenomena, history as well as some basic communication skills that could help in a conversation with the members of the Polish community in the USA. The project received over 53 thousand zlotys (~11 thousand euro) in funding.
