Olha Shuklinova wins the Coimbra Group 3-Minute-Thesis JU

The final of the Coimbra Group 3-Minute-Thesis Jagiellonian University competition was held on 26 March 2021. 10 PhD students presented the key ideas of their doctoral dissertations in just 3 minutes. The first place was taken by Olha Shuklinova, the author of the presentation „Mathematics helps to optimize therapy in Parkinson’s disease”.

Due to the pandemic situation, the event, initially planned to be held in Collegium Novum, took place online.

The participants’ presentations, in which they introduced their research in English in just 3-minutes, using only one slide, were assessed by a jury consisting of the JU Vice-Rectors Prof. Dorota Malec, Prof. Armen Edigarian and Prof. Piotr Kuśtrowski, the Deputy Drector of the Doctoral School in Medical and Health Sciences Prof. Maciej Siedlar, the Head of the JU Association of Doctoral Students Stanisław Szufa, and Dr Monika Stawicka from the Jagiellonian Language Centre.

The Jury decided to award the first place to Olha Shuklinova, for her presentation entitled “Mathematics helps to optimize therapy in Parkinson’s disease”. The second and third place ware taken respectively by Błażej Mzyk for his presentation “Truthmaking. Are facts still really indispensable?” and Elżbieta Wątor for her presentation “Lock and key. How to hijack protein function with structural biology?” The public vote award went to Unnikrishnan Sureshkumar, author of the presentation “Cosmic Web Through Astronomers' Eyes”.

The winners will be awarded with prestigious prizes, such as research trips to universities constituting the Coimbra Group. Moreover, the winner of the CG 3MT JU will be nominated by the Jagiellonian University to represent it in 3MT final during the annual General Assembly of Coimbra Group.
