A new publication on Polish astronomy research centres

A new publication on Polish astronomy research centres

Late March marks the issue of a new publication entitled Polish Astronomical Facilities which describes Polish scientific institutions dedicated to space research, including their science communication activities and initiatives. The book was published jointly by the Polish Astronomical Society and the Jagiellonian University Astronomical Observatory.

‘We hope that this publication will help anyone interested in establishing  scientific and educational  cooperation, assist young people in choosing the most interesting place for studying science, offer journalists contact with leading Polish astronomers and develop cooperation between scientific facilities and industry. In addition, it will present a current outline of scientific research in astronomy and astrophysics conducted in Poland’, reads the foreword by Prof. Marek Sarna, President of the Polish Astronomical Society.

The guide-book is 72 pages long and was issued in the A5 format. As a collective work, the book contains descriptions of Polish research centres prepared by scientists from those centres. It features a list of higher education institutions which offer first-, second- and third-cycle programmes in astronomy.

Although the publication is focused mostly on research centres, several pages are dedicated to science communication activities and media related to astronomy. It also contains a map of Polish national and international research infrastructure as well as astronomical observatories and largest telescopes.

The publication is available in English, both in printed form an as an e-book. The aim is to promote the work of Polish scientists in an international environment in order to foster collaboration with leading astronomy research centres in the world.

The book Polish Astronomical Facilities is available for download at the Polish Astronomical Society website: https://www.pta.edu.pl/pliki/polish-astronomical-facilities.pdf
