19 Polish universities have been included in the latest edition of the QS World University Ranking 2022, the results of which were published on 8 June. Comparing to last year, the Jagiellonian University moved up by 17 positions, achieving the highest place in the ranking’s history.
QS World University Ranking is carried out by the British company Quacquarelli Symonds, which specialises in publications focused on education and studying abroad. It is one of the four most important educational rankings in the world, together with The Times Higher Education, The Shanghai Rankings and U-Multirank. This year, 1,300 higher education institutions have been featured in the ranking.
The ranking is based on several criteria: academic reputation (40%), employer reputation (10%), student-to-faculty ration (20%), citations per faculty (20%), and international faculty and student ratio (5% each). Each year, Quacquarelli Symonds published three separate lists, assessing the overall activity of the universities, their research efforts, and study programmes.
In this year’s edition, the Jagiellonian University was ranked at the 309th position, the highest in the history of the ranking. The University received the best marks for its student to lecturer ratio, prestige amongst employers, and reputation in the academic community. The Jagiellonian University systematically moves up in the ranking, as in the 2018 edition it was still classified in the 461–470 range.
18 other Polish higher education institutions have also been included in the ranking, such as the University of Warsaw (308) and the Warsaw University of Technology (501–510). As usual, the top positions are occupied by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (first place), University of Oxford (second place) and Stanford University and University of Cambridge (tied for the third place).
