JU Rector’s appeal to staff and students

JU Rector’s appeal to staff and students

On 24 November 2021, during the session of the Jagiellonian University Senate, the JU Rector Prof. Jacek Popiel presented an appeal to the JU academic community. The document, earlier consulted with the Rectors' Committee and the JU Student Government, gained full support from the Senate. The appeal is available below.

Dear Members of the JU Academic Community,

Due to the dynamic progression of yet another wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, acting with care for the health of University employees, students, and doctoral students, I would like to ask all members of the Jagiellonian University Academic community to voluntarily provide the information about having been vaccinated against COVID-19 by presenting the vaccination certificate (full vaccination cycle).

This information will help prepare the organization of the University’s functioning during the pandemic, ensuring the safest conditions for work and education possible.

As this information is sensitive, the University will execute extraordinary diligence in keeping it secure and ensure that the information will only be used to counteract epidemic threats for the benefit of the whole Academic community. The data will be used exclusively to determine the appropriate organization of work and education at the Jagiellonian University.

If you decide to inform the University about your vaccination against COVID-19, please convey it directly to the authorized persons who ask you to provide it. Those messages should be sent to the university email addresses (only uj.edu.pl domain). These shall be:

For students and doctoral students – JU Dean’s offices/JU Faculty offices/JU Institute offices;

For doctoral students enrolled in Doctoral Schools – JU Doctoral Schools’ offices;

For university employees – direct supervisors (i.e., Heads of administrative units/Deans/Heads of the university-wide units).

Persons responsible for the organization of the collection of this data are: for Faculties and university-wide units – Dean/Head of the JU organizational unit; for the university-wide administration – JU Chancellor.

Please provide this information by 1 December 2021.

Next, I would like to ask the Deans/Heads of the JU university-wide units and the JU Chancellor to pass the collected information to the Rector’s Office by 2 December 2021.

I want to stress that the recipients of the information are required to keep it confidential. The University will use this information exclusively to improve safety and prevent the spread of SARS-CoV-2 among the Academic community.

I would like to thank you upfront for your reaction to this appeal. Through your actions, you can contribute to making it possible for the University Governance to take appropriate measures to improve the safety of the Academic community. Only through our responsible behavior and caring for the health of others can we stand up against further progression of the pandemic.

Wishing you all good health,

Prof. dr hab. Jacek Popiel

Rector of the Jagiellonian University
