On June 23 the JU Vice-Rector for International Relations Prof. Dorota Malec received the Ambassador of Columbia to Poland Assad José Jaterem Peña. The meeting participants, who also included the Honorary Consul of Columbia in Kraków Joanna Natasza Wais and the Head of JU International Relations Office Dr Izabela Zawiska, discussed, among other issues, various aspects of collaboration between the Jagiellonian University and Columbian higher education institutions, including Erasmus+ student and staff exchange.

The Thursday meeting in the Senate room of Collegium Novum was the first visit by the Ambassador of Columbia to Poland at the Jagiellonian University. During the meeting, Assad José Jatere Peña stressed the importance of seeking new forms of cooperation between the Jagiellonian University and Columbian academic institutions. Prof. Dorota Malec remarked that collaboration with the Columbian partners has been especially strong in the area of biological sciences, pointing to the work of Prof. Kazimierz Strzałka, the first Director of the JU Małopolska Centre of Biotechnology. Another important subject discussed at the meeting was the functioning of the schools of foreign law at the Jagiellonian University and the possible cooperation with the Republic of Columbia in this field.

After the meeting, the diplomat paid a visit to the Jagiellonian University Museum Collegium Maius.
