On the anniversary of the brutal invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation, the Rector of the Jagiellonian University Prof. Jacek Popiel addressed a letter to the Consul General of Ukraine to Kraków Viacheslav Voinarovskyi.
Dear Mr Voinarovskyi,
On the anniversary of the brutal invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation, which violated all norms and values of the civilised, democratic world, I would like to express my support and solidarity for you and your nation on behalf of the Jagiellonian University academic community.
Let me also stress that the oldest Polish University is ready to continue its support to refugees from Ukraine, especially students and doctoral candidates who came to Poland and Kraków. I strongly believe that different forms of aid from our academic community will still be provided during these hard times.
On the anniversary of the events of 24 February 2022, I would also like to repeat what I declared one year ago and assure you that the Jagiellonian University academic community strongly and resolutely condemns the military aggression of Ukraine by the Russian Federation and the related atrocities breaking the international humanitarian law and basic human rights, which in certain cases may be identified as war crimes and crimes against humanity.
I strongly believe that the admirable courage, determination and heroism of the Ukrainian nation, reflecting not only its patriotism, but also commitment to the values fundamental for the whole democratic world, along with the support from the international community, will bring about peace and freedom and open up possibilities of rebuilding the war-ravaged country.
