Indonesian ambassador visits the Jagiellonian University

Indonesian ambassador visits the Jagiellonian University

On Tuesday, 16 March 2023, the Jagiellonian University was visited by a delegation led by Ambassador of Indonesia to Poland Anita Lidya Luhulima accompanied by the I Secretary for Information, Social and Cultural Issues of the Embassy of Indonesia in Poland Yoan Nike Afilia and Honorary Consul Marian Skrzypiec. The members of the delegation were welcomed in the JU Collegium Novum Senate Room by JU Rector Prof. Jacek Popiel and JU Vice-Rector for International Relations Prof. Dorota Malec.

During the first part of the meeting, Prof. Jacek Popiel provided a short summary of the Jagiellonian University’s history and described the various building blocks that make up the University in the shape it now has, particularly the modern 3rd Campus of the 600th Anniversary of the Jagiellonian University Revival as well as the University Children’s Hospital in Kraków and University Hospital in Kraków, the largest and most innovative health care centre of this type in Poland and Central Eastern Europe.

Next, Prof. Dorota Malec recollected how in January 2013, the JU Faculty of International and Political Studies organised a lecture ‘Indonesia on the Move’ by the former Ambassador of Indonesia to Poland Dr Darmansjah Djuma. She also mentioned the accomplishment of Polish students in Indonesian projects and competitions and similar achievements of Indonesian students in Poland. Finally, she stressed that the Jagiellonian Language Centre offers classes in the Indonesian language and that Indonesia students can chose from a wide variety of study programmes carried out in English.

Ambassador Anita Luhulima pointed out that aside from Janabadra University and University of Indonesia, which are already working together with the Jagiellonian University, there could possibly be two other Indonesian higher education institutions interested in collaborating with the oldest Polish university. She also stated that the Jagiellonian University could be included in the Indonesian Students Mobility Award scholarship scheme. In that case, Kraków could become a second destination for Indonesian students interested in studying in Poland (currently, the only Polish institution in the scheme is the University of Warsaw). She also said that she will engage in activities aimed to promote Poland, Kraków and the Jagiellonian University amongst Indonesian students.
