JU becomes the highest ranked Polish university according to CWUR

The Jagiellonian University was ranked highest amongst Polish higher education institutions in the Center for World University Rankings 2024 (CWUR). It is closely followed by the University of Warsaw and AGH University of Science and Technology. As usual, Harvard University is at the top of the list.

Since 2012, CWUR publishes the only academic ranking in the world that measures the quality of education, career opportunities, and level of teaching and research without resorting to surveys and data submitted by higher education institutions. It began in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) as a project aiming to rank the top 100 universities in the world. It was quickly noticed by universities and media around the world, and its authors received many requests to extend its scope. As a result, in 2019 it was expanded to feature 2,000 best universities in the world, making it the largest academic ranking of world universities.

CWUR 2024 was yet again dominated by higher education institutions from the United States, with eight of them featured in the top ten. The remaining two are British universities. Harvard University received the highest marks, followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, Cambridge University, Oxford University, Princeton University, Columbia University, University of Pennsylvania, Yale University and California Institute of Technology.

In this year’s edition of the ranking, there are 41 Polish universities, ranging from the 386th to the 1,958th place out of 2,000. The Jagiellonian University was ranked as Poland’s best higher education institution, closely followed by the University of Warsaw (421st place) and AGH University of Science and Technology (637th place).
