On 17–22 May 2015, at the invitation of Korea Foundation, a delegation from the Jagiellonian University visited South Korea. The delegation consisted of Prof. dr hab. med. Wojciech Nowak, JU Rector, Rev. Prof. dr hab. Krzysztof Kościelniak, Head of the Institute of the Middle and Far East, and Prof. dr hab. Adam Jelonek, Head of the Chair in Far Eastern Studies.
The JU representatives participated in meetings organised within the framework of Korea Foundation sessions. They also visited the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, the Academy of Korean Studies, and the University of Seoul, with which they have signed an agreement concerning student and staff mobility. On 21 May, the delegates took part in a conference entitled Korean Unification for International Public Good and the Role of International Media and meetings with Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs and Head of Korea Foundation. The events took place on the island of Jeju as part of the 2015 JeJu Forum for Peace and Prosperity.
The visit resulted in expanding the areas of cooperation between the higher education institutions. Plans have been made to establish a Centre for Korean Studies at the Jagiellonian University. It is worth to mention that the JU Institute of the Middle and Far East is the only one in Kraków to offer a Korean Studies study programme.
