Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology scientist declared one of the winners of the Skills programme

Dr Dominik Czaplicki from the JU Department of Cell Biochemistry has won an internship at the Bonaccord Ecosse Ltd. law firm in Edinburgh. His stay will be funded by the Foundation for Polish Science within the framework of the 4th edition of the Skills programme.

142 candidates have submitted their applications to participate in this edition of the programme, with only 14 being declared its winners.

Dr Czaplicki will begin his two month internship in early August. Bonaccord Ecosse Ltd. offers legal and organisational support to higher education institutions and businesses active in the area of life sciences. In particular, the firm offers assistance in technology transfer: from assessing the potential of the research to negotiating contracts with investors and commercial partners.

"The internship will be mainly focused on direct participation the firm's activities: business meetings, data analysis, preparation of commercialisation strategies and license agreements etc. It's not a research internship. I hope I'll be able to make use of the skills I earn there at the Jagiellonian University, i.e. at my Faculty or the Centre for Innovations, Technology Transfer and University Development," says Dr Czaplicki.

Dr Dominik Czaplicki conducts research in the area of biochemistry and molecular biology. Since 2012, he has been employed at the Department of Cell Biochemistry, where he currently works on a project related to cancer immunotherapy. In 2008–2012, he worked at the Centre for Innovations, Technology Transfer and University Development. He specialised in identification of new inventions, intellectual property protection, preparation of technological offers for industry, and negotiation of commercial cooperation. In 2012, he took part in a two month internship at the University of California, Berkeley. The course comprised a total of 240 hours, with 9 one day visits to such companies and institutions as Autodesk, NASA, Intel, IBM, Pax Water, Mozilla, Google, YouTube, and Plug and Play.
