The Jagiellonian University and the University of Warsaw ranked the best in Poland

The Jagiellonian University and the University of Warsaw tied for first place in Poland in the "Perspektywy 2015" ranking, with a total of 187 higher education institutions taken into account. Third place was taken by the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.

The ranking was based on six general criteria: prestige, scientific potential, scientific effectiveness, innovativeness, studying conditions, and internationalisation. Below is the list of more detailed categories along with the names of the higher education institutions which achieved the best result:

  • scientific potential – Jagiellonian University,
  • internationalisation – Kozminski University,
  • scientific effectiveness – University of Warsaw,
  • prestige among academic staff – Jagiellonian University,
  • prestige among employers – Warsaw University of Technology,
  • publications and citations – Medical University of Lodz,
  • innovativeness – AGH University of Science and Technology,
  • studying conditions – Medical University of Gdańsk.

The "Perspektywy" ranking was established in 2000 and is recognised worldwide. In 2013, it was accredited by the IREG Observatory on Academic Ranking and Excellence. According to the creators of "Perspektywy", the results of the 2015 edition clearly show that both the Jagiellonian University and the University of Warsaw are developing at a similar, steady pace and are worthy representatives of Polish higher education in the world.

The ranking also assessed study programmes offered by Polish universities on the basis of five criteria: opinions of professors, opinions  of employers, publications, citations and the Hirsch index. The Jagiellonian University won in 11 categories: Biotechnology, Polish Studies, History and Archaeology, Biological Programmes, Cultural and Regional Studies, Environment Protection, Law, Psychology, Pharmacy, Medical Programmes, and Healthcare. According to the ranking, the JU Medical College is still the best medical university in Poland.
