18th Edition of JU School of German Law comes to a close

13 June 2014 saw the closing ceremony of the 18th edition of the Jagiellonian University School of German Law

13 June 2014 saw the closing ceremony of the 18th edition of the Jagiellonian University School of German Law and the 13th edition of the JU School of Polish Law. The meeting in the Assembly Hall of Collegium Novum featured the JU Vice-Dean for University Development Prof. Maria Jolanta Flis, the Vice-Dean for International Relations of the JU Faculty of Law and Administration Prof. Jerzy Pisuliński, and a number of Polish and foreign guests. The Schools have been organised by the JU Faculty of Law and Administration in collaboration with Heidelberg University and the University of Mainz. The event started with a piano recital of Anna Rataj, an alumna of the JU School of German Law, who performed pieces by Chopin and Schubert.

A visiting lecture in German about "Europe as an idea of being different" was delivered by Dr Angelika Nussberger, a judge in the European Court of Human Rights. After the talk diplomas were presented to 29 alumni of the JU School of German Law and 13 alumni of the JU School of Polish Law.

The main prize of the 18th School of German School went to Monika Nowakowska, a law graduate from the JU Faculty of Law and Administration. She was awarded with a special doctoral fellowship at Heidelberg University, funded by Gerta Scharffenorth Foundation.

The German Consulate General to Kraków was represented by Isolde Felskau, the chancellor and head of the Economic Department. The ceremony concluded with a music performance by Jacek Kopiec and Piotr Południak.

The meeting was possible thanks to the financial support from the sponsors, including the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD and the Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation. The book prizes for the School of German Law alumni were funded by the C.H Beck publishing house.
