Professor Jacek Purchla becomes head of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee

Professor Jacek Purchla of the Jagiellonian University Faculty of International and Political Studies became head of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee. He will hold this position until the end of the next session of the Committee, which is to take place in Kraków in July next year.

‘Ships sailing in the air, or flying in the Middle Ages’ was the title of a lecture delivered by Dr Wiktor Szymborski from the JU Faculty of History on 21 October 2016 in Auditorium Maximum. The lecture was organised by the Disability Support Service, and adapted to the needs of the visually impaired and hard of hearing. In a short interview, Dr Szymborski discussed the subject of his lecture.

On 25 October 2016 the Jagiellonian University was visited by the Ambassador of Mexico to Poland Alejandro Negrín Muñoz. The diplomat was received by the JU Rector Prof. Wojciech Nowak and the Dean of the JU Faculty of International and Political Studies Prof. Zdzisław Mach.

Eminent Japanese chemist awarded with JU honorary doctorate

20 October 2016 saw the conferment of the Jagiellonian University honorary doctorate upon Professor Yukihiro Ozaki. The title was awarded in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the development of broadly understood molecular spectroscopy. It was also a way to acknowledge his special affection for Kraków and the Jagiellonian University.
